Ubuntu ...

ubuntu Since this posting goes to the German Planet as well, it is bilingual (German / English).

From Jono Bacon, The Ubuntu Ethos
So, today I would like to ask each and every one of you reading this to do one simple thing to help us all reconnect and share our ethos. If you have a blog or use Twitter or identi.ca, I would like to ask you to take five minutes to write down why Ubuntu is important to you, and what aspect of our ethos attracts you and motivates you about Ubuntu. How does our ethos around freedom excite you about the project? If you don’t have a blog, use IRC, mailing lists or anything else you can think of. The key point here is in sharing with others about what Ubuntu means to you. If we work together to continue to share our ethos, it will not only be healthy for our community, but also healthy for the next important chapter in the Ubuntu story.

To be honest, Ubuntu is not the best Linux distribution available (but I do not know any distribution which could claim the title, Debian comes pretty close). What makes the difference with Ubuntu is the community and the will to change.

Community is about sharing; sharing knowledge, sharing resources, helping each other, getting together ... this is what makes us a great community. The people who have more give a hand to people having less. This is not limited to money or to other belongings.

The community makes it possible to attend at ubuntu conferences (ubucons) and makes one feel like visiting a family meeting. The community makes it possible to gain friendships all over the world. After my relocation to Switzerland I found people sharing the same thoughts as I have. I am invited to Iran next year and I will be happy to meet Mehdi.
